Projects are shared workspaces in Assist. They bring together everything that belongs to one topic, matter or deal: your chats, your documents and folders, and the colleagues you work with.
Each project also gives Assist standing context. The project context and jurisdiction apply automatically to every chat in the project, so you don't need to repeat the background in each conversation.
This article is about Assist projects. Projects in Extract work differently, see Create, Duplicate and Delete Extract Projects.

Before you start
- Every user can create projects. No special role is required.
- You can only add colleagues from your own organisation as collaborators.
- Every user also has a personal area, shown as Assist in the sidebar. It contains all your private chats and documents and cannot be renamed, shared or deleted.
- In this article, projects means Assist projects. Extract has its own, separate project concept.
Create a project
- In the sidebar, click + next to Projects.
- On the Details tab, enter a title.
- Optionally, add a project context and select a jurisdiction.
- On the Collaborators tab, search for colleagues by name or email and click Add collaborator. You can also skip this step and add people later.
- Click Create project.
The project context serves as a baseline instruction for Assist and applies to all chats in the project. Use it to describe, for example:
- the matter or deal the project is about
- the parties involved
- how Assist should approach the work
The jurisdiction focuses Assist's research. It filters the initial search and limits automatic references to the laws and supported publishers of the selected region.
Work inside a project
Click a project in the sidebar to open it. The sidebar then switches to the project's own navigation:
- New Chat
- Chat History
- Project Documents
- Settings
Everything you create inside the project belongs to it and is visible to all collaborators. Chat history and project documents only show the content of the project you're currently in. To return to your personal area, click the arrow next to the project name.
In Project Documents, you can upload documents, create folders and bring in documents from connected systems such as SharePoint, iManage, SEPTEO or Advoware. You can upload up to 100 documents at once, with a maximum of 150 MB per file.
A small people icon next to the project name shows that the project is shared.
Collaborate in a project
Collaborators can:
- view all chats in the project and start new ones
- read, upload, download and delete project documents
- use project documents in project chats
- duplicate any project chat to continue it
Each chat has one author. Other members can read your chats but cannot continue, rename or delete them. Chats, folders and documents show who created them, so everyone can see who contributed what.
Only the project owner (the person who created it) or an admin can:
- edit the project
- invite collaborators or remove them
- delete the project
Continue a collaborator's chat
Chats created by other collaborators are read-only for you. To continue one, duplicate it:
- Open the chat.
- Click Duplicate in the banner at the top of the chat.
Alternatively, open the chat's menu in the project's chat history and select Duplicate.
You get your own copy of the conversation in the same project, which you can continue as you like. The original chat stays unchanged.
Move a chat into a project
- Open your personal Chat History.
- Click the three-dot icon next to the chat.
- Select Move and choose the project.
Documents attached to the chat move with it, so collaborators can open them.
You can also turn a chat into a new project: select Create project from chat in the same menu.
Moving a chat is one-way. A chat can only be moved from your personal area into a project, not back and not between projects.
Edit a project or view project details
Open the project and click Settings in the sidebar, or use the … menu next to the project in the sidebar.
As the owner, you can change the title, project context and jurisdiction on the Details tab and manage collaborators on the Collaborators tab. Click Save changes to apply your changes. The owner is marked as Owner in the list and cannot be removed. To remove a collaborator, click Remove from project next to their name.
As a collaborator, you see the same dialog in read-only mode (Project details).
Leave a project
Collaborators can leave a project at any time:
- Open the … menu next to the project in the sidebar, or open the project details.
- Select Leave project.
You lose access to the project, its chats and its documents. The owner can add you back later. The owner cannot leave their own project.
Delete a project
- Open the project's Settings, or the … menu next to the project in the sidebar.
- On the Details tab, click Delete project.
- Type the project name to confirm.
Deleting a project removes the project and all its chats and documents for you and all collaborators. Deleted projects cannot be restored.
